Why not named Billiards?

Billiards is played on a table without pockets. The game only has three balls, 2 white and a red.

Pool involves a table with six pockets.

Eight Ball and Cut Throat games are the most often played,

Eight Ball is a game played with a cue ball and fifteen object balls, numbered 1 through 15. One player or doubles team must pocket balls of the group numbered 1 through 7 (solids).  While the other player/team has 9 thru 15 (stripes).  The player/team pocketing their group first and then legally pocketing the 8-ball wins the game.  We use a variance on the Eight Ball game.  The one ball must go into the East middle pocket and the 15 ball must go in the West middle pocket.

Cut Throat is played when their are an odd number of pool players.

The objective is to pocket your opponents balls to win the game.

If 3 players each has 5 balls.  1-5 / 6-10 / 11-15

If 5 players each has 3 balls.  1-3 /  4-6 /  7-9  / 10-12 / 13-15
